My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we gather to reflect on the topic of refusing eternal life. In John 5:39-40, Jesus speaks to the Jews who diligently search the Scriptures, believing that by them they possess eternal life. However, Jesus points out that they refuse to come to Him to have that life.

The Scriptures are a divine revelation from God, containing the testimony of Jesus Christ. They bear witness to Him as the Son of God and the Savior of the world. The Jews, in their search for eternal life, were missing the point by not recognizing that the Scriptures point to Christ as the source of that life.

We, too, can fall into the trap of searching for eternal life in the wrong places. We may seek fulfillment in material possessions, relationships, or worldly success, but true and eternal life can only be found in Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

It is crucial for us to understand that the life we seek is only found in Christ. He is the source of life, and apart from Him, there is only death and darkness. By refusing to come to Him, we are rejecting the very gift of life that He offers freely to all who believe in Him.

We must recognize our own perversity in refusing the gift of eternal life. We choose to turn away from Christ, the giver of life, and instead seek fulfillment in worldly pleasures and pursuits. But true life can only be found in Him.

Let us remember that there is life for the dead in Christ. He is the resurrection and the life (John 11:25), and in Him, we find true and abundant life. Let us not refuse to come to Him, but instead, humbly accept the gift of eternal life that He offers to all who believe in Him.

May we be like the psalmist who declared, "In your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore" (Psalm 16:11). Let us come to Christ, the source of eternal life, and receive the abundant blessings He has in store for us. Amen.

Let us not be like the Jews who diligently searched the Scriptures but refused to come to Jesus for eternal life. Let us instead be like the wise virgins who were prepared with oil in their lamps when the bridegroom came (Matthew 25:1-13).

Brothers and sisters, let us not delay in coming to Jesus for the gift of eternal life. Let us not allow pride, doubt, or distractions to keep us from receiving the abundant life that He offers. Let us not be like the rich young ruler who walked away sorrowful because he could not let go of his possessions (Matthew 19:16-22).

Instead, let us be like the woman at the well who encountered Jesus and received the living water that quenched her thirst forever (John 4:13-14). Let us be like Zacchaeus who climbed a tree to see Jesus and received salvation in his household (Luke 19:1-10).

Jesus stands ready to offer us the gift of eternal life. He invites us to come to Him, to believe in Him, and to receive the abundance of blessings that He has in store for us. Let us not refuse this precious gift but instead embrace it with open hearts and minds.

As we reflect on the Scriptures and the testimony of Jesus Christ, may we be reminded of the importance of coming to Him for eternal life. May we not be like the unbelieving Jews who missed the opportunity to receive the gift of salvation.

Let us pray for the courage and faith to come to Jesus, to accept His gift of eternal life, and to walk in the light of His presence each day. May we be filled with the joy, peace, and hope that only He can give.

In conclusion, let us remember the words of Jesus in John 10:10, "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." Let us choose life in Christ and receive the eternal blessings He offers. Amen.
